Open from 9 am in the morning until 4pm, you can explore the ruins at El Meco in a hour or so, perhaps before taking the ferry for a day trip to Isla Mujeres (the ferry port for Isla Mujeres is only about 5 minutes from el Meco). Locals say that El Meco has a special energy and is like a vortex of good luck and power.

The history of El Meco Mayan ruins in Cancun is that it was once a fishing village around 300 AD and later developed into a major trading post for Isla Mujeres around 1100 AD. The Mayan archeological site has a number of buildings and ruins to explore with a market square, shrine and temple called El Castillo (the Castle).
