Sayulita: Pueblo Magico – 2020 Update

Just approximately 40 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, you can find Sayulita, a charming town on the Pacific Ocean coastline. Surfers and many visitors love the vibe in Sayulita. Sayulita was designated a Pueblo Magico in September 2015 during the Segunda Feria Nacional de Pueblos Mágicos. Talpa de Allende and Mascota are other small towns that were also awarded the Pueblo Magico designation, which means “Magic Towns” in English. In 2001, the Pueblo Magico concept started when the Mexico Tourism Board wanted to give towns and villages in Mexico this award. To be honored as a Pueblo Magico, the town must meet 3 requirements. First, the town must have visually pleasing architecture. For instance, the balconies and roofs would be painted the same color, and the National Institute of Anthology and History has 7 approved colors that towns can choose from. Secondly, the town has to have its own cultural identity with homemade handicrafts. Lastly, the town must have a beautiful village square to be a Pueblo Magico. 

Sayulita Top Beaches

Strolling on the beach is something visitors can enjoy on a day trip to Sayulita. Some of the best surfing breaks in the area attract many surfers to Sayulita. There, you can rent your own surfboard on the beach. If you don’t care to go surfing, then you can go to Paddleboarding, and you can rent them on the beach as well. Visitors can drink a delicious cocktail at one of the many restaurants on the beach shore. There are plenty of wonderful art galleries and restaurants in Sayulita. You can’t miss the centrally located plaza and gazebo. It is usually decorated in colorful Huichol art that makes for a beautiful photo op. In town, there are lots of art galleries selling fine art and local Huichol handicrafts, too. While you are walking through the town, you will see many different restaurants and bars. It doesn’t matter what kind of food you have a craving for, you will find it here.
