Wind Festival Origins

The 1st Edition of Wind Festival was held in 2011 which was coordinated by the Mexican Kiteboard Association in an attempt to promote the region as a top sailing location. Thanks to a successful inaugural event, the tradition has continued each year and just gets better every time. Thanks to community support and a motivated organizing committee, this year’s 2019 Riviera Nayarit Wind Festival is destined to the best yet.

100 Moments of Mexico Winner

This year in 2019, over 300 competitors from different parts of Mexico and across the world are expected to participate as well as over 5000 spectators and 100 news and media outlets.

Competition Details & Location

Come join us for fun in the sun from May 17th to May 19th in the resort neighborhood of Nuevo Vallarta. It is sure to be a wonderful weekend of impressive sailing and kiteboarding competitions, great food and entertainment. The largest number of participants are competing in the Kiteboarding competition and categories include Freestyle, Downwind, Slalom, Big Air, Long Distance and Regata de Foil. Competitors must start at the same time, and the winner of each category will be whoever reaches the goal in the shortest period of time. Aiming to promote the sport of windsurfing in Banderas Bay, the Riviera Nayarit Wind Festival is also sponsoring Mexico’s International Kiteboarding Championship this year. The International Kiteboarding Championship works to increase visibility of Banderas Bay as an ideal location for water sports, and supports kiteboarders in their professional growth.
