Puerto Vallarta is the ultimate vacation destination for the art lovers of the world. In no other place in Mexico will you find the pervasive presence of fine, modern, and public art living side by side by the beach. The abundance of varied art galleries, stores, and markets in the Downtown and Romantic Zone of Puerto Vallarta means that you’ll never be short of something artistic to do or see. In fact, there is so much art in the area that you could cover your house completely in works of art twice over!

Puerto Vallarta’s galleries are numerous, and have developed a sparkling reputation for variety, quality, and creativity. They house works by local artists such as Manuel Lepe Macedo, Javier Niño and Rogelio Díaz, and types of art that range from traditional paintings and sculptures, to designer jewellery and prints. In fact, there are even specialized galleries that deal exclusively with Huichol art.

The Huichol are a local Native American ethnic group whose art is utterly stunning. Made with colored beads and beeswax sealed threads, this art is traditional, vibrant, and enchanting. If you’re really lucky you might even catch one of the craft markets that crop up around town from time to time. Such markets are a huge part of the atmosphere of Puerto Vallarta where public art is as much a part of the city as the venerable board-walk, the Malecon, that dominates the downtown area.

The Malecon itself is lined with sculptures, created by home-bred Mexican artists like Ramiz Barquet, Alejandro Colunga, Sergio Bustamante and Jonas Gutiérrez, some of which are actually interactive. When you come off the promenade, you’ll find that the human statues and caricaturists in the area are incredibly talented, as well as being lovely people in general.

Puerto Vallarta is the ultimate art lovers get away; pop in and see us, we promise you’ll never be disappointed.
